Rumours: 10.1-inch Nokia Sirius tablet runs Windows RT and coming 26 September 2013?

Right after reporting about Nokia Codenames, one of them pops up in the form of a 10.1-inch tablet. Going by the Nokia Sirius codename, the 10.1-inch tablet may be running Windows RT and offer a number of features which include it being lighter and thinner than the Apple iPad while weighing about one pound or more. The overall design doesn't deviate from the standard Nokia Lumia design so this includes a polycarbonate backplate with rounded curves near the edges. Other tech specs that could come for the Nokia Sirius include:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 32GB storage + microSD
  • 10.1-inch display (1080 x 1920, Brightness Booster)
  • 6MP rear camera + 2MP front camera
  • Supports 4G LTE + microHDMI + microUSB
  • 10-hour battery life

Following in the footsteps of the Surface tablets, Nokia will likely sell the Nokia Sirius with a keyboard accessory that will also pack it's own built-in battery. While there isn't any release date in Malaysia just yet, sources indicate that it could be announced on 26 September 2013 during a Nokia event in New York. The Nokia Sirius is estimated to start pricing from $499 (RM1662) for the basic model. While we applaud the effort, having Windows RT as the operating system seems to indicate that Nokia haven't learnt anything from Microsoft's own rather expensive (alright, $900 million) mistake. Hopefully when it does come to Malaysia Nokia will have ironed out all of the Windows RT kinks or found some form of workaround to make it more useful. In related news, the Nokia Bandit phablet may be called the Nokia Lumia 1520, shedding it's earlier 'Bandit' codename.
