We have talked about the Samsung patents to create a foldable phone in the past, but a new patent recently shared shows what it could look like if the company decides to create one for the market. Tentatively labelled as the Galaxy X, this may be the future of smartphones.

The patent listing shows the different views of the potential smartphone from the Korean company, and how the foldable mechanism could work. The hinge looks familiar, as it has a similar outlook as the Microsoft Surface Book 2-in-1. The overall concept looks like something that is more akin to a flip phone than a futuristic phone, but we are close in getting our first true foldable smartphone.

We were expecting the phone to appear by the end of the year, but due to certain timing and mishaps, it has been pushed to 2017 at the earliest. Are you looking forward to this new design? What do you expect from the phone? Stay tuned to TechNave as we bring more news on the Samsung Galaxy X
