As previously reported, SHARP will officially launch a new full-screen smartphone called the Sharp Aquos S2 on 14 August 2017 and they have revealed the device in its full glory. Turns out that there will be two variants but both are categorized as mid-range after looking at the tech-specs. Check them out below:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 / 660, 14nm processor, quad-core clocked at 2.2GHz
  • 4GB / 6GB RAM
  • 64GB / 128GB ROM (expandable memory up to 128GB via microSD card)
  • Measures 141.8 x 72.04 x 7.9 mm, weighs 140 grams
  • 5.5-inch IGZO display in 1080p
  • Dual 12MP + 8MP camera sensor (f/1.7) | 8MP front camera
  • Features fingerprint scanner, dual SIM slot, USB type-C
  • Supports 4G, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC
  • Android 7.1.1 Nougat
  • 3020mAh battery

So obviously, the company is jumping on the bezel-less design bandwagon but the phone actually looks kinda good. This design is known as the "tri-bezel" because of how the top looks like, with both sides removed making way for the screen, leaving the front camera alone there. According to SHARP, this makes the whole screen-to-body ratio up to 17:9 and 87.5%.

For the dual rear cameras, it wasn't specified if the phone was gearing towards to monochrome, telephoto or depth of field function. We will have to assume that it will be the latter, to add on to that - it's also using Dual Pixel technology with 1.4µm which can pick up a lot of light in low light environments.

Because of its 5-surface single-piece 3D glass wrapping the phone, the colour choices look great too in crystal black, glazed white, blue, and mint green.

The Snapdragon 660 and 6GB + 128GB model will cost ¥3499 (~RM2240) while the Snapdragon 630 and 4GB + 64GB is ¥2799 (~RM1792). Do you think Sharp Mobile Malaysia will bring in these two to Malaysia? God knows, stay tuned for more SHARP news at TechNave.com.
