Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 series could see price hike despite switch to MediaTek

Depending on various conditions, brands sometimes increase or decrease the prices of their products in subsequent generations. For electronics, it's more often that we see prices go up. That's expected with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 series this year.

According to Sammobile (via svztechinfo), the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra will cost more than their predecessors. The leak shows that the Galaxy Tab S10+ will retail in Switzerland for CHF1179 (~RM6055), an increase of CHF150 (~RM770) from last year's Galaxy Tab S9+. As for the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, its CHF1399 (~RM7185) price tag is CHF200 (~RM1027) higher than its predecessor.

Of course, there are a few things to remember. First, prices in Malaysia aren't as high as the conversion rates indicate. For reference, prices for last year's Galaxy Tab S9+ and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra start from RM4599 and RM5999, respectively. You won't find these two models on Samsung Malaysia's website now, but you might be able to find one from smaller retailers.

Secondly, the price changes could apply differently in Malaysia. It might just be an RM200-300 increase for the Plus model, while the Ultra gets a slightly higher RM400-500 increase. Having said that, a price hike seems pretty likely. This is despite the possible switch to a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 series chipset for the Plus variant. MediaTek chips cost less than their Qualcomm counterparts, so the increased price tag could be due to other factors.

Mind you, this leak is from Switzerland, so it's not a direct reflection of what prices could be like in Malaysia. While we think a price hike is possible, take the news with a grain of salt. We'll look out for more updates on this, but in the meantime, stay tuned to TechNave for other news.
