Samsung’s upcoming wearable, the Galaxy Watch 5 is reportedly getting a ‘thermometer function’ that can accurately measure body temperature without being affected by the wearer’s external environment. This is according to a leak shared by Korea IT News, who also claimed that the smartwatch would be launched in August this year.

The report further elaborated that Samsung has actually been trying to add a thermometer function to its wearables for a while now but faced problems with accuracy. In fact, Apple is also facing the same issue, hence why the Apple Watch is also missing a thermometer function up until today.

However, it seems that Samsung has devised a technology that can successfully overcome the issue as the thermometer function can allegedly measure body temperature correctly even if the wearer is under direct sunlight. Furthermore, the leak also suggested that Samsung is mulling adding the feature in its upcoming Galaxy Buds as well.

Obviously, the ability to accurately measure body temperature would put the Galaxy Watch 5 at an advantage in this Covid-19 pandemic era. Especially when other features such as blood oxygen saturation, ECG and blood pressure sensors all expected to be retained from its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 4

Speaking of Samsung’s wearable devices, the South Korean tech giant is also determined to expand in the product category. Its end-goal for 2022 is to achieve double-digit growth in the market and the Galaxy Watch 5 could potentially paved way for that.
