Samsung during its Galaxy Unpacked 2022 event today announced the release of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4, the successor to the world’s best selling foldable in 2021, the Galaxy Z Flip3. Featuring more functions and customisations on the cover screen, the Galaxy Z Flip4 retains the iconic compact clamshell design with improved tech specs under the hood.
When folded, the Galaxy Z Flip4 measures at just 71.9mm x 84.9mm x 17.1mm and while unfolded, it morphs into a 71.9mm x 165.2mm x 6.9mm form factor. Samsung said that the foldable’s hinge is now slimmer and the design is its most refined with straightened edges, contrasting hazed back glass and glossy metal frames.
Moreover, users can also fully customise the Galaxy Z Flip4 inside and out, with Galaxy Themes on both Cover and Main Screen to complement their style with custom fonts, icons and designs. Besides that, users can even create their own Cover Screen with new clock designs and backgrounds in various formats such as images, GIFs and even video.
In terms of display, the cover screen has been upgraded to a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED with a 260 x 512 pixels resolution. Meanwhile, the main display is a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex panel with a resolution of 2640 x 1080 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz.
The 3700mAh battery is also an upgrade from its predecessor and supports 25W Super Fast Charging too, whereby Samsung claims that the Z Flip4 can charge up to 50 percent in around 30 minutes. Besides that, the device also supports 10W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging with Wireless Powershare.
Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 paired with either 8GB of RAM. In terms of storage, the Galaxy Z Flip4 comes in either 128, 256 or 512GB configurations.
As for the cameras, it is equipped with a 12MP main + 12MP ultrawide rear dual-camera setup as well as a 10MP selfie camera. Other notable specs include 5G connectivity, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, Bluetooth 5.2, IPX8 water resistance and Android 12 OS via One UI 4.1.1.
Lauding the Galaxy Z Flip4 as the ultimate tool for self-expression, Samsung asserted that the device’s compact clamshell design offers unique experiences not available on any other smartphones. Users can shoot hands-free video or capture full group selfies at various angles by partially folding the Galaxy Z Flip4 to activate FlexCam.
Besides that, Samsung is also partnering with Meta to optimise FlexCam for Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook. Users can do more with the Galaxy Z Flip4 by taking high-quality selfies right from the Cover Screen by leveraging the main camera with the upgraded Quick Shot. For example, you can start high-quality video recording in Quick Shot mode and then seamlessly switch to Flex mode to continue recording hands-free without stopping the video. Moreover, users are now able to take selfies in Portrait Mode and see preview in actual photo ratio when using Quick Shot.
The Galaxy Z Flip4 comes in five colour options, namely Bora Purple, Blue, Pink Gold, Graphite and a Bespoke Edition. In Malaysia, it is priced at RM4099 for the 8/128GB version, RM4399 for the 8/256GB variant and RM4899 for the 8/256GB configuration. Besides that, there’s also a Bespoke Edition (8/256GB) available for RM4599.
