Samsung announces the Gear S3 smartwatch

It is not surprise that Samsung is still coming out with new smartwatchs in their Gear series. What is surprising however is that the new Gear S3 is not a replacement, but a parallel model to the older Gear S2. Featuring the same great rotating bezel, an all-new design and many more enhancements – the Gear S3 is set to add more value to the Tizen smartwatch market.

There will be two models on offer – Classic and Frontier (just like the Gear S2). What differs between the two is the latter will have LTE connectivity, flat buttons and a more rugged looks. Both devices will come with the rotating bezel, with added functionalities. Both models feature a 1.3-inch Super AMOLED fully circular display, which now comes with Samsung’s Always On Display feature that now supports 16 million colours. Both Classic and Frontier versions also sport IP68 ratings for dust and water resistance, as well as an extra military-grade durability rating to help the watch stay functional in extreme temperatures.

For the first time, the Gear S3 features Samsung Pay functionality for wireless payments. Unfortunately neither the price nor availability has been announced by Samsung for the Gear S3 – so stay tuned to TechNave for more news coverage on the Gear S3 as well as IFA 2016.
