Just like the rumours of the iPhone 17e kicking out the Plus variant in the iPhone 17 series, Samsung could be revamping the upcoming Galaxy S26 series with a new Edge model. This new addition is expected to replace the current "Plus" model, which has consistently recorded the lowest sales among the Galaxy S series variants.

According to sources within Samsung's component supply chain, the company has initiated development on the Galaxy S26 series under the project name "NPA," following the previous "PA" project for the Galaxy S25. The initial lineup for the S26 series includes standard, Edge and Ultra models. However, Samsung may reconsider this configuration based on the market performance of the Galaxy S25 Edge.

The Galaxy S25 series has a shipment target of 37.7 million units for this year, with the Plus model accounting for only 6.7 million units. In contrast, the standard and Ultra models are projected at 13.6 million and 17.4 million units, respectively. The Edge model is anticipated to offer a slimmer design, potentially appealing to consumers seeking a more compact premium smartphone.

The shift towards the Edge model aligns with the current industry trends, as competitors like Apple have also observed weaker sales in their Plus models and are considering slimmer alternatives in future releases. But as we reportedly earlier, the final decision depends on the consumer response to the Galaxy S25 Edge.
