Second phase of payments for Bantuan Prihatin Nasional will start on 4 May 2020

The Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) was announced earlier this month and it served as a way for the government to ease the financial burden of Malaysians during the movement control order (MCO). Today, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz announced that the second phase for Bantuan Prihatin funds will be given out starting from 4 May 2020.

According to Tengku Zafrul, there has been a total of 2.96 million applications and 300000 appeals (for rejected applications) as of 26 April 2020. He also reported that a total of 7.74 million Malaysians received a combined total of RM5.47 billion in funds during the first phase. Even those who do not have a bank account were able to receive the funds beginning via Bank Simpanan Nasional branches.

Regarding the second phase of Prihatin payments for both households and unmarried individuals under the B40 and M40 categories. Applications will be open till 30 April 2020, so do take note of that. As for the details on how funding a household or individual can receive, the details haven't changed from the first phase.

Besides the second phase payments, Tengku Zafrul also confirmed that the special grant for micro-businesses is coming soon. Small businesses can apply for this beginning 1 May 2020 and successful applicants will receive a grant of RM3000 funds. Further details will be announced by the Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia (LHDNM) soon.
