In these current times, many of us are tightening the proverbial drawstrings on our wallets and avoiding spending. At the least, most people are being more careful with their spending. That's partly why sales of iPhones have dipped in Q1 2021 despite overall industry growth.

According to a report from Strategy Analytics (via Wccftech), shipments of 5G iPhones have dropped by 23% in Q1 2021. This is despite the relative popularity of the iPhone 12 series that Apple launched in October last year. However, the reason for this drop was not discussed. So is it because of the chip shortage? Maybe, maybe not.

Although that is still a problem, the smartphone market actually performed better in Q1 2021 with an estimated 6% growth compared to Q4 2020. This indicates that the industry is making a recovery from the huge slump last year. Other than a notable dip in Apple's sales, other companies like OPPO, vivo, Samsung, and Xiaomi have notable improvements to their sales volume.

Of course, the global chip shortage remains a problem and we could still see numbers drop in the coming months. But people are still willing to buy shiny new smartphones. How about you, have you bought a new phone within Q1 2021? Let us know which model it is in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news on the latest smartphones.
