The Sony LinkBuds made headlines when it first debuted earlier this year thanks to its open ring design. Now, new leaks suggest that the company may release the LinkBuds S, which despite having the same naming scheme, will feature a more traditional design.

Allegedly the second model in the series, the LinkBuds S looks similar to the company’s WF-1000XM4 and will have the codename WF-LSN900. For reference, the LinkBuds has the codename WF-L900.

The design of the new earbuds was leaked by SnoopyTech on Twitter, which shows the earbuds and its case in full. Speaking of which, the case and earbuds for the alleged LinkBuds S look almost identical to the XF-1000XM4's, prompting many to call it a 'cheaper version' of the latter.

Well, one advantage of having a conventional design for an earbuds is the ability to put active noise cancellation (ANC). The leaks said that LinkBuds S will definitely have ANC and offers a better sound stage than the original LinkBuds.

It may also have Ambient mode or transparency mode, which uses the earbuds’ microphones to let outside sound in. Unlike other earbuds, the LinkBuds S is said to be able to trigger Ambient mode automatically by learning from user’s behaviour.

However, do take this information with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed as of yet. Nevertheless, it’s intriguing how the alleged LinkBuds S would compare to the WF-1000XM4 in terms of sound quality and ANC.
