After teasing the existence of a gaming-centric Xperia smartphone for a while now, Sony has finally unveiled the device, aptly named Sony Xperia 1 IV Gaming Edition. Launched in Japan yesterday, one of the stand-out features of the device has got to be its 6.5-inch 4K 120Hz OLED display.

According to the official Sony Japanese website, the Xperia 1 IV Gaming Edition will also sport 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. However, the processor is rather disappointing, given that it’s only being powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and not the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.

Besides that, the device also packs a 5000mAh battery and in terms of design, it’s identical to the regular Xperia 1 IV. Well, one way in which Sony “gamified” the smartphone is by having it come bundled with the Xperia Stream accessory.

For now, the Xperia 1 IV Gaming Edition is only being sold in Japan starting 15 September 2022, with pre-orders ongoing since yesterday. The device is priced at JPY175,000 or ~RM5471. Global availability has yet to be revealed by Sony as of the time of writing.
