Sony officially releases Reon Pocket, a wearable air-conditioner

Some companies make the weirdest things, though some of them could prove useful. Take Sony, for example, which just released a new wearable device. The Reon Pocket is a wearable cooler that will keep the heat down on hot days and it's officially available on Sony Japan's online store.

Originally introduced last year in a Kickstarter campaign, Sony was going to release the Reon Pocket in conjunction with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The Olympics got postponed to next year, but Sony ended up going ahead with the launch of the device. Those who are interested in it can buy it for about 13000 yen (~RM524) from the Sony Japan online store or Amazon Japan.

So, how does it work? Well, it's able to directly cool the surface it contacts with. To best maximise its effect, Sony is also selling a customised undershirt for 1800 yen (~RM73) that comes with a special pocket for the device. By placing the wearable inside, the wearer will be able to feel a cooling sensation on their back. The Reon Pocket can last about 2.5 hours on a full charge, which should be enough for you to commute from work to home or vice versa.

Considering that Malaysia has months of hot weather too, this device would be cool (pun intended) to have. However, we have no idea if Sony has any plans to release this outside of Japan, as it seems like it may be a niche product. But what do you think about it, would you be interested in buying one?
