Just right after Microsoft announced its PC Game Pass trial for Southeast Asian countries, Sony didn't wait long to introduce a revamped PlayStation (PS) Plus plan that's coming in June 2022. The information can be a lot to take in so here's a breakdown of what each plan offers for the Malaysian market.

The all-new PS Plus subscription is combined with the PS Plus and PS Now which will offer three membership tiers. This will be released around the world and the tiers include PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium. Although it's a global product, the current market that will have it are the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, and most of the European countries.

Now, for the three membership tiers explanation:

PlayStation Plus Essential

  • Provides the same benefits that PlayStation Plus members are getting today, such as:
    • Two monthly downloadable games
    • Exclusive discounts
    • Cloud storage for saved games
    • Online multiplayer access
  • There are no changes for existing PlayStation Plus members in this tier

The price* for PlayStation Plus Essential remains the same as the current price for PlayStation Plus

  • RM29 monthly, RM69 quarterly or RM159 yearly

PlayStation Plus Extra

  • Provides all the benefits from the Essential tier
  • Adds a catalogue of up to 400* of the most enjoyable PS4 and PS5 games – including blockbuster hits from our PlayStation Studios catalogue and third-party partners. Games in the Extra tier are downloadable for play
  • RM44 monthly, RM114 quarterly or RM269 yearly

PlayStation Plus Premium**

  • Provides all the benefits from Essential and Extra tiers
  • Adds up to 340* additional games, including:
    • PS3 games available via cloud streaming
    • A catalogue of beloved classic games available in both streaming and download options from the original PlayStation, PS2 and PSP generations
  • Offers cloud streaming access for original PlayStation, PS2, PSP and PS4 games offered in the Extra and Premium tiers in markets** where PlayStation Now is currently available. Customers can stream games using PS4 and PS5 consoles, and PC***
  • Time-limited game trials will also be offered in this tier, so customers can try select games before they buy

It should be noted that there's also an upcoming PS Plus Deluxe plan which is an alternate version for PS Plus Premium. This plan is mainly for selected markets that don't have cloud streaming and will be offered at a lower price. Although there's no cloud service, PS gamers have access to a catalogue of PS1, PS2 and PSP games to download and play. For the Malaysian market, it is priced at RM50 monthly, RM130 quarterly or RM309 yearly.

As aforementioned, PS Now will be combined into the new PS Plus. PS Now users will be automatically migrated over with no increase to their current subscription fees. Sony also plans to roll out the new PS Plus plan in a phased regional approach and expand its cloud streaming at a later date.
