Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi today announced that the open payment system at MEX Highway’s Putrajaya toll plaza will undergo a public testing period beginning tomorrow (3 August). Essentially, this allows users to pay for tolls using debit or credit cards.

First revealed by the Works Ministry in March, the open payment system will be fully operational beginning September 2023 at 12 highways and 31 toll plazas, involving 87 toll lanes. Taking to Facebook today, Nanta shared a video of him personally inspecting the readiness of the open payment system at MEX Highway’s Putrajaya toll plaza.

The Works Minister added that with the new system, highway users have various options of payment to choose from, including Touch ’n Go, MyRFID, SmartTag and debit or credit cards. He also reiterated that the 12 highways that would implement the open payment system beginning next month, which are:

  • Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH)
  • Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE)
  • Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA)
  • New Pantai Expressway (NPE)
  • Penang Bridge (JPP)
  • Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE)
  • Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP)
  • Western Kuala Lumpur Traffic Dispersal Scheme (SPRINT)
  • Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS)
  • SMART Tunnel
  • Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Expressway (MEX)
  • Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE)

The implementation of the open payment system is part of the efforts by the government to transition towards the multi-lane fast flow (MLFF) toll collection system by the end of 2024. MLFF basically removes boom gates at toll plazas and allows for smooth traffic.
