When the Steam Deck was announced recently, some people question if the hardware powerful enough. Unlike Nintendo games, a lot of PC games on Steam require very powerful PC specs. However, a Valve executive claims that there will be a minimum fps.
In his tweet, Pierre-Loup Griffais 30fps is the minimum of what's considered playable. Allegedly, games that have been tested on the Steam Deck have "consistently met and exceeded that bar". This suggests that the hardware is capable of output most games at a minimum frame rate of 30fps.
The "30 FPS target" refers to the floor of what we consider playable in our performance testing; games we've tested and shown have consistently met and exceeded that bar so far. There will also be an optional built-in FPS limiter to fine-tune perf vs. battery life.

However, don't expect all games to run at 60fps without tweaking the settings. For high-end games, you might only be able to get 'playable' frame rates at very low graphical settings. Anyway, the Steam Deck will allow users to limit the frame rate to 30fps, which will extend the battery life. For example, you would be able to play Portal 2 for 6 hours in 30fps mode.
Obviously, it doesn't sound as impressive as a high-end PC. But the Steam Deck is quite an exciting device. It's unlikely to launch in Malaysia, but would you buy it if it becomes available here? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news on this.
