Big tech companies seem to love investing in their data centres in Malaysia. In the latest news by The Edge, Sunway Construction Group Bhd has secured two contracts totalling RM1.16 billion to provide contractor services for data centre projects by an undisclosed US-based tech company.

These contracts have been awarded to Sunway Construction's wholly owned subsidiary, Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd (SCSB). With these new projects, SunCon's total new orders for the year have reached RM3.5 billion, surpassing half of its 2025 order book replenishment target, which ranges between RM4.5 billion and RM6 billion. Consequently, the company's outstanding order book has expanded to RM7.9 billion.

SunCon's Managing Director, Liew Kok Wing, expressed confidence in the company's growth trajectory, stating that the new contracts will bolster earnings visibility over the next two years. He emphasised the company's positive momentum, driven by accelerated progress on data centre projects and a robust outstanding order book.

The projects are set to commence immediately, with a target completion anticipated by February 2027. Also, in case you missed it, Gamuda was tasked with a RM1 billion contract by Google to build a data centre in Port Dickson. You can read the news about it here.
