Previously, we reported that Telegram would be rolling out a ‘Stories’ feature on the platform in early July and while the company is a bit late, the feature is now here. There’s a catch though, as currently, it is only available in full for Premium users of the app.
Confirmed by the platform on its official Twitter account, Telegram Stories was spotted by a user who posted a couple of screenshots of the feature in action. In the replies, the official Telegram Twitter account randomly appeared and clarified that only Premium users can post stories.
Essentially the same feature found on Meta’s Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, which itself was inspired by Snapchat, users can see bubbles at the top of the conversation list which will show the Stories once selected. Just like other Stories in other apps, they will disappear within a specific time and can be customised on whether to make them viewable to the public, contacts only or Close Friends.
To clarify, every Telegram user can see Stories, but only Premium subscribers can post them. It is unknown whether it will be expanded to all users in the future.
