The chip shortage is affecting production of Nintendo Switch consoles

There has been a lot of talks about shortages of semiconductor chips lately. The shortage has resulted in more industries facing production issues, with Nintendo the next to be affected. In fact, the company's president confirmed that at a recent conference.

According to Nikkei (via Video Games Chronicle), Shuntaro Furukawa (Nintendo President) said that the company may not make as many Nintendo Switch consoles as it would like. This is because of the global shortage of materials for semiconductor, which has resulted in an increasing uncertainty on production capacity.

For your info, the company's wants to ship 25.5 million consoles this fiscal year. That's about 3 million units less than the 28.83 million units shipped in the previous year. However, the initial forecast assumes that the company can secure enough material, which may no longer be the case. As such, the company will probably be revising that figure.

For us, the biggest concern is the possibility of increased prices. The Nintendo Switch is a console that's in high demand, so low supply could cause merchants to raise their prices. If so, do you plan to get one soon while prices are stable? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave for further updates on this.
