The first notch-less and ‘full-screen’ iPhone may only come in 2024

Earlier this month, we reported on how Apple was successful in its patent application for an under-display Face ID technology. However, it seems that Apple would only be able to implement such a feature in 2024, making the iPhone 16 Pro potentially being the first ‘full-screen’ iPhone.

This is according to reliable tipster regarding everything Apple, Ming-Chi Kuo. Taking to his Twitter account, Kuo updated his recent thread discussing a notch-less iPhone, saying that the real full-screen iPhone will only come in another two years.

He further elaborated that high-end iPhones in 2024 would adopt an under-display front camera alongside the under-display Face ID. Hence, Apple is now hard at work to improve image signal processors (ISP) and machine-learning algorithms for imaging.

Both features are important so that the camera can deal with the low-light conditions created by its location beneath the display. Kuo expects Apple to improve the technology in time for the iPhone 16 lineup, though it will most probably be implemented inside the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max.

However, do take this information with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed as of yet. Though, given that Android smartphones have already come out with under-display cameras, the two-year estimation by Kuo may seem logical and spot on.
