The upcoming Apple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max may finally come with a lightning connector that supports USB 3.0 speeds. This is according to a new leak by reliable tipster LeaksApplePro (via iDropNews).

While not exactly the upgrade to USB-C that many users have been calling for, the transfer speed upgrade to USB 3.0 would still be a considerable step up for the iPhone. For reference, currently iPhones only support USB 2.0 speed at a maximum limit of 80 Mbit/s (60MBps) while USB 3.0 offers transfer rate up to 4.88 Gbit/s (600MBps).

LeaksApplePro also made a rather controversial comment regarding the reason why Apple is still sticking with the Lightning connector for its iPhones. The tipster said that the move was purely for profit as the giant tech company has a lucrative licensing deal with third-party accessory companies for the lightning connector.

The tipster then said that the feature may only come to the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max and will be absent from the regular iPhone 14. However, LeaksApplePro said that they can’t confirm on the matter.

As always, please take this information with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed as of yet. Though, a data transfer speed bump via lightning is definitely welcomed.
