Recently, Meta took on Twitter with Threads and now, another social media provider is also taking on an established platform at its own game. We are of course talking about TikTok which just launched TikTok Music, a music streaming app to rival Spotify.

This is not entirely unexpected as TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance was already spotted developing the music subscription service last year. As reported by Forbes, TikTok Music has been launched in Indonesia and Brazil and allows TikTok users in both countries to sync their accounts to save songs heard in viral TikTok videos, as well as stream full versions of those songs.

Furthermore, ByteDance is aiming to make the app compete with music streaming giants Spotify, Apple and Amazon. Accordingly, TikTok Music sports features found on the aforementioned company’s apps, including uninterrupted ad-free listening and a download function for offline playback.

At launch, TikTok Music is offering a one-month free trial, though, unlike Spotify, the app won’t have a free ad-supported membership tier. The subscription fee starts at IDR44900 or ~RM14 per month for Android users in Indonesia, with the iOS version being slightly pricier at IDR49000 or ~RM15 per month.

It is unknown whether TikTok Music will be coming to other regions, including Malaysia. Based on the expansion of TikTok Shop previously, we do expect it to be available in our country in the near future.
