U Mobile says alleged data breach claim is outdated

Two days ago, hackers claimed to have stolen four million pieces of data belonging to U Mobile customers. It was allegedly sold through the BreachForums black market and the ransom price was $5000. However, it seems that the claim was dated.

While the hack did happen before, U Mobile told and confirmed to us that the sample posted on BreachForums on the 16th of July 2024 is old data from 2014. The sample also corresponds to data breached from the incident reported in 2017 that involved leakage of personal information of over 46 million users across various Malaysian organisations dating back to 2014.

Additionally, U Mobile confirms no evidence of unauthorised access to its database was found. The company is also confident that the data is secure, and it would like to assure all U Mobile customers that the team puts the utmost importance on cybersecurity and that extensive measures are taken to safeguard the customers’ data.

With that, U Mobile customers can rest assured that this latest hack claim is just a hoax and scare tactic by scammers. Stay safe and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
