USB 4 is now official and can deliver up to 40Gbps speed

It wasn't too long ago that we reported that Samsung is already mass producing its latest 512GB eUFS 3.0 storage chip. At this moment, there is another new member and it's not by Samsung, but rather the standard organization USB-IF for announcing USB 4 (not 4.0, just 4) and get this, it's able to reach up to 40Gbps (dual-channel) in transferring speed!

For comparison, the USB 4 transfer speed is the same as Intel's Thunderbolt 3 as well and this is pretty great news for all mobile users when USB 4 becomes the norm. Going into the technical aspects, USB 4 is capable of supporting up to 100W of power which means it can support two 4K displays or a single 5K display. It also does not rely on a "colour interface for intergenerational differentiation", as it has a new type of protocol that is compatible with the existing USB 3.2, USB 2.0, and Thunderbolt 3. On top of that, the physical connector is the same as the Thunderbolt 3's USB Type-C.

You may not know this, but Thunderbolt 3 is only strictly certified by Intel and it's good to know that they are open to the public and the use of this technology will be excused from licensing fees. With this, transferring super big files like a 4K video footage will be faster!
