Valve Product Designer Greg Coomer confirmed that “unless something major changes”, there will in fact be a next-gen Steam Deck in the future. Moreover, he elaborated that the theme, size and shape will change and that it may even “become a streaming machine”.

Coomer further asserted that the Steam Deck is an extension of Valve’s core Steam platform and that it is another PC in another form. Steam has many other uses besides this handheld device, such as on TV or on the desktop and Valve aims to continue to work to satisfy its customers as much as possible.
