Will Nothing Phone 1 get Android 13? A product is more than its version number, says Carl Pei

Android 13 was officially released by Google on 16 August 2022 for Pixel devices, with the OS update only coming to other supported Android devices “later this year”. However, one notable brand missing from the list of devices to receive the update is Nothing and its founder Carl Pei had some interesting comments when asked about the matter.

Asked by @LelloucheNico on Twitter regarding when Android 13 will be coming to the Nothing Phone (1), Pei completely avoided answering the question directly but went a bit philosophical. Get this, the Nothing CEO and founder replied by saying that a product is “more than just its specs, features and version numbers”.

Well, we do get where Pei is coming from, as the Nothing brand is more about design and unique user experience rather than specs. On its website, Nothing said that the Phone 1 features “only the best Android” with a “perfected” experience, which doesn’t necessarily mean the latest Android versions.

However, isn’t having the latest Android OS important to get the latest and greatest from Google and more importantly, security features? If specs, features and version numbers don’t matter, I guess nothing really matters then, right?
