Previously, we shared how the Federal Government will no longer offer free tolls during festive seasons starting this year, with a more targeted approach to be implemented in its place. Accordingly, the recent Chinese New Year celebration saw a 50% toll discount for travellers, and the Works Ministry has confirmed that this would be implemented for other festive seasons in 2025.

Bernama quoted Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi as saying that the 50% toll discount is replacing the previous toll-free initiative by the Government. He added that this measure would reduce the costs borne by the Government in compensating highway concessionaires.

Nanta further revealed that 8 days were allocated for the 50% toll discount in a year, involving RM80 million being paid to concessionaires, which is half of the RM160 million used for free tolls last year. Nanta also clarified that the cost of the toll discount was covered by the government using public funds, not by the highway concession companies.
