Yesterday, Microsoft Xbox and chipmaker AMD formalised a strategic, multi?year collaboration to develop custom processors for upcoming Xbox consoles. This move signals a deeper co-engineering relationship that could bring major optimisations in both performance and efficiency.
Open Ecosystem Support Beyond the Microsoft Store
In the video, Microsoft emphasised that the next-gen Xbox will support a variety of game storefronts beyond its own, hinting at compatibility with platforms like Steam and Epic Games Store. This aligns with Xbox’s open approach to third-party and community-driven gaming.
The joint engineering efforts with AMD are expected to boost hardware performance, graphical fidelity, power efficiency, and responsiveness. Meanwhile, broader store compatibility gives gamers more flexibility in how they purchase and play games within the Xbox console environment.
Looking Ahead
Details on hardware specs and exact delivery dates are still under wraps. However, this collaboration sets clear expectations: upcoming Xbox models will deliver elevated tech capabilities and an open ecosystem experience.
On the other hand, the two companies also recently announced the ROG Xbox Ally series console. Still no official launch dates yet, but it is expected to arrive in Malaysia by the end of the year. Stay tuned for the official news until then.
