Xiaomi could deploy 200W fast-charging tech this year

Whether they're relevant or not, smartphone brands continually push for greater specs these days. For Xiaomi, fast-charging tech is one of them. The company's 200W fast-charging was recently showcased in May, and it could come sooner than we think.

According to Gizmochina, 200W fast-charging was made possible thanks to a new fast-charging chip by NuVolta Technologies - the NU2205. The chip supports a max charging output of 100W and dual-cell batteries. A smartphone could achieve 200W fast charging by using two NU2205 chips with a dual-battery configuration.

From what we can see, NuVolta's promo visual showed the chip being used on the Xiaomi Mi 11 series device. This means that the two companies are working closely, so Xiaomi could be using NuVolta's new chip to deliver 200W fast charging. Some believe that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 would be the recipient device. However, a previous rumour reported that the device could be using a 120W+80W fast-charging configuration instead.

Of course, most of this is speculation at the moment. While faster charging sounds great, it can make batteries hotter and degrade battery life faster. As such, companies might not want to deploy 200W fast-charging tech so soon. But what do you think, would that kind of fast-charging speed be something you want?
