If you’re looking for a smartphone that would get some interest at the dinner table, you might want to wait for the Mi Mix 3 to be released in Malaysia this 12th of January. Xiaomi teased the release date on their official Facebook account yesterday. The smartphone’s price point wouldn’t break the bank either, teased to be under RM2500 and has a very interesting feature.

Tech specs wise, the smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 845, has a 6.39 inch full-screen AMOLED display and a pretty standard 3200mAh battery capacity. In addition, it has a dual rear camera setup, with both cameras at 12MP and the selfie camera is also a dual camera setup with 24MP and 2MP cameras which are housed in the magnetic slider behind the screen.

The concealed magnetic slider behind the screen is the smartphone’s most interesting feature as it houses its selfie cameras. This allows the smartphone to have a large screen to body ratio - 94.3% specifically, and also makes the screen perfectly unobstructed - a true full display. The smartphone also supports quick charging as well as wireless charging, has a rear mounted fingerprint scanner, Xiao AI voice assistant and more. The company claims that the slider has a has a life expectancy of 300000 cycles in lab tests.

Personally, we're a little skeptical. Any moving parts are prone to breaking. Hopefully this might be an exception but we’ll see. However, it is very interesting to see lengths companies go to just to conceal selfie cameras for that true full display. What do you guys think?
