The Works Ministry today announced that road users in Malaysia can pay for tolls using credit or debit cards on 12 highways beginning September 2023. This is part of a new open payment system which allows for payment methods other than Touch ’n Go and RFID.

As reported by Bernama, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced the list of participating highways, which are:

  • Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH)
  • Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE)
  • Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA)
  • New Pantai Expressway (NPE)
  • Penang Bridge (JPP)
  • Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE)
  • Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP)
  • Western Kuala Lumpur Traffic Dispersal Scheme (SPRINT)
  • Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS)
  • SMART Tunnel
  • Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Expressway (MEX)
  • Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE)

Nanta asserted that the open system is part of the efforts by the government to transition towards the implementation of the multi-lane fast flow (MLFF) toll collection system by the end of 2024. MLFF basically removes boom gates at toll plazas and allows for smooth traffic.

Currently, MLFF is being tested at SUKE expressway, with all the toll plazas on the highway already equipped with the system. Previously, Pay with Debit teased about the open payment system being implemented on Malaysian highways and on public transport.
