Previously, we reported on the Ministry of Transport’s (MOT) plan to allow users to pay for public transportation in our country with debit and credit cards. Further breaking Touch ’n Go’s monopoly is the Works Ministry’s decision to allow toll payments via the same methods.

Well, we may get an announcement for when this open payment system would be implemented in both soon. This after Pay with Debit recently teased the matter via its official social media accounts.

In the teaser, the payment platform shared that “exciting news” is on the horizon. Furthermore, the post asserted that users in Malaysia may soon be able to use their preferred payment method to pay for public transportation and tolls.

Of course, this comes as no surprise as Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi previously asserted that the open payment system on 5 highways will be available by September 2023. No specific dates were mentioned though, so we might get an announcement from the government soon as teased by Pay with Debit.
