Today marks the day for the arrival of the world's first commercial smartphone with an under-display camera. The ZTE Axon 20 5G has made quite a splash by overcoming the hurdle of making a smartphone with an under-display camera and finally release it. Apart from the under-display camera, let's find out what else that the smartphone is bringing to us alongside the highly-anticipated camera technology!
The problem that most of the smartphone manufacturers are facing when it comes to making the under-display camera is insufficient light reaching the sensor resulting in poor image quality. To solve that, ZTE applied a special film coating on the screen layers to let the 6.92-inch OLED become more transmissive and transparent as reported earlier. The screen also comes with a 90Hz refresh rate, 10bit color output, and a 20.5:9 aspect ratio. There is an embedded fingerprint scanner as well.
Other than that, the 32MP front camera comes with its own light perception sensor which regulates the amount of light needed to bring better picture quality. ZTE has also reworked the pixel arrangement around the camera’s lens so it matches the rest of the display without any noticeable color distortion. There is also a new processing algorithm which helps to optimize image clarity. On the back, there is a quad-camera setup that brings a 64MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide lens and two 2MP units for depth and macro shots.
The ZTE Axon 20 5G is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765G chipset paired with 6/8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of internal storage. There will be a 4,220mAh battery with 30W fast-charging support. The device will be running ZTE’s Mifavor 10.5 with Android 10 out of the box. For the price, the 6/128GB variant will be sold at 2,198 Yuan (~RM1,334), while the 8/128GB and 8/256GB variants will be sold at 2,498 Yuan (~RM1,516) and 2,798 Yuan (~RM1,698) respectively. The device will be available in four colours that are Black, White, Purple and Orange.
