Under-display cameras are still pretty much in development and so far, the ZTE Axon 20 is the only commercial smartphone that has it. Currently, ZTE is working on a 2nd Gen under-display camera and we got a first look at the prototype thank to leakster, Digital Chat.

From the image, Digital Chat posted the leak on Weibo that the display panel is provided by Visionox. ZTE previously didn't use that as the ZTE Axon 20 was an OLED display. While the new prototype is showcasing an "invisible" front under-display camera, it may be a different story if we try to look from a different angle.

In case you didn't know, MKBHD actually managed to get his hands on the ZTE Axon 20 and the under-display camera is visible from a certain angle. The front under-display camera didn't perform too well (only 26 points for a selfie on DxOMark) and it never appeared in Malaysia (even though it was supposed to). Despite the allegedly poor reviews, Digital Chat claimed that the new 2nd Gen is a more improved version and has solved the previous issues. Well, we shall see.

At the moment, no other brands are interested in releasing an under-display camera phone yet perhaps due to the issue that ZTE faced. Nonetheless, we can be sure that they are working hard on the feature and one day, we will get to see it. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
