Announcement from ZTE Weibo

Last week, ZTE dropped a teaser claiming that it will be the first company to unveil a smartphone with an under-display camera. It was confirmed by sources then that the device in question is the ZTE Axon 20 5G. ZTE has now officially announced that the phone will be launched in China on 1 September 2020.

So, what do we know about the Axon 20 5G (or A20 5G)? Allegedly, this is going to be an upper mid-range device sporting a Snapdragon 765G chipset, up to 12GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of internal storage. According to a TENAA listing, it's also supposed to have a 6.92-inch 1080p OLED display, 4120mAh battery, and 5G support. Moreover, it'll be available in white and blue colours.

In terms of cameras, the under-display camera will be a 32MP sensor with the display supplied by Visionox. If you recall, it was revealed back in June that Visionox was ready to mass-produce OLED panels that support under-display cameras, so this lines up. Anyway, the rear cameras here would consist of a 64MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide camera, plus another two 2MP sensors that are likely the macro and depth sensors.

The under-display camera alone makes the ZTE A20 5G an interesting product, but it's uncertain whether ZTE will launch this phone outside of China. Having said that, would you buy it just for the new type of front camera? Let us know on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news like this.
