For compact smartphone lovers, the ASUS Zenfone 9 and Zenfone 10 are practically heaven-sent in the sea of large phones. With that being said, we’ve got some bad news on the matter, as the Zenfone 10 may end up being the last smartphone in the Zenfone series by ASUS.

In a report by the Taiwanese-based publication Finance Tech News, ASUS is allegedly axing the smartphone series in an unexpected organisational restructuring. The report claims that in June, the company made an internal announcement to its employees regarding the restructuring.

The memo assures employees that no job cuts would be made, but the company reportedly didn’t go through with the promise as there were layoffs in the PC department in both Taiwan and Suzhou, China in July.

Sourcing an insider, Finance Tech News added that a 50 per cent workforce reduction would occur soon, affecting the engineering and procurement teams. Circling back to the subject matter at hand, it is claimed that ASUS would be ending the Zenfone series, with the team working set to be integrated into its ROG smartphone division instead, which would be the main focus of the company mobile division moving forward.

Of course, do take this with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed yet. Well, if it turns out to be true, then we just have to savour the Zenfone 10 while it lasts.
