iFixit gives 3/10 rating for Apple iPad Pro on repairability

The folks at iFixit have just done the Apple iPad Pro teardown. The tablet for business users was just released in Malaysia on 11.11 (visit the link for price and tech specs) while the teardown itself revealed a rather low repairability score and another reason to be extra careful with your brand new iPad Pro.

From the video and website, the internal layout is quite similar to the iPad Air 2 but bigger. One of the obvious changes is the audio setup, as the iPad Pro has not two but four speakers. Each of the four speaker drivers are placed at each corner of the platform, and it’s also noteworthy that the top two speakers have higher frequencies than the bottom two. Another change of its previous predecessor iPads, are the volume chambers which gives 61% more “back volume”. The foam below the carbon fiber caps will also amplify the speaker’s sound. iFixit thinks the space could have been used to increase battery capacity by 50%, as the speaker functionalities inside the iPad Pro seems to take up a lot of space inside.

Besides that, iFixit also confirms the iPad Pro is indeed carrying a 4GB RAM, a 10307 mAh battery, and a DP695 Timing Controller. Keep note that the Timing Controller is also what a 5K Retina iMac uses, so that justifies the cost. Overall, iFixit gives a 3/10 repairability rating (higher means easier). So for those who already have the iPad Pro in their hands, be very careful with it!
