We have been talking about the iPhone 17 Air for a few months now. Today, a new report suggests that Apple could be planning a major redesign for the unannounced iPhone, potentially boasting an ultra-light titanium frame.
A Thinner, More Compact Design in the Works
According to supply chain analyst Jeff Pu, this new “Air” variant is expected to stand out from the rest of the iPhone 17 series not just in design, but in weight. Apple is reportedly experimenting with a more lightweight titanium alloy, aiming to make the device even lighter than current Pro models, while still retaining the durability benefits of titanium.
Beyond materials, the iPhone 17 Air may feature a significantly thinner and more compact design overall. This aligns with earlier rumours suggesting Apple is looking to introduce a sleeker aesthetic for future iPhones. The new model is also rumoured to replace the iPhone 17 Plus.
A Strategic Shift for the iPhone Lineup?
If true, this move would reflect Apple’s continued push toward lightweight, premium materials while responding to consumer demand for more ergonomic designs. With titanium already introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro models, it seems Apple is exploring ways to scale that success with even more refined hardware.
However, it’s still early, so Apple’s plans may change. Until then, we will have to wait and see how it turns out at the annual Apple Event in September 2025.
