iPhone 17 is not expected to feature notable upgrades

If you held back on upgrading your iPhone for years, hoping that 2025 would be the time to do so, you might be disappointed. Analysts don't believe Apple's base iPhone 17 model will impress this year, describing it as 'underwhelming'.

According to MacRumors, the analyst Jeff Pu from GF Securities claimed the base iPhone 17 will sport the same Apple A18 chip used in last year's iPhone 16. It's also expected to have the same 8GB of RAM. On the other hand, the other iPhone 17 series models - Pro, Pro Max, and Air - will get a RAM upgrade to 12GB. It's implied that Apple could reserve the best upgrades to the higher-tier iPhone 17 models to offer better product differentiation. For instance, the iPhone 17 Air will allegedly have the new Apple A19 chip, slimmer body, and 48MP main camera.

Of course, that's not to say the iPhone 17 won't have any upgrades. Currently, the most notable rumoured upgrade is the screen. Sources claim the iPhone 17 will feature a larger 6.3-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, offering a noticeable improvement over the 60Hz refresh rate of previous generations. The iPhone 17 could also get a 24MP front camera, replacing the iPhone 16's 12MP front camera.

These upgrades could make the iPhone 17 worthwhile, especially if you have something like an iPhone 12. At the very least, the 5-year technological gap is significant enough to justify an upgrade.
