iPhone SE 2024 has been cancelled, analyst claims

If you recall, it was previously rumoured that Apple could postpone its next-generation iPhone SE 4 to 2024. The news came from industry analyst, Ming-chi Kuo, who's been accurate with many of his predictions. Well, now he says that the device might have been cancelled.

According to Kuo, Apple's supply chain has received instructions to cancel production and shipment plans for the 2024 iPhone SE. We don't know if this means that Apple plans to discontinue the iPhone SE line, but the news at least suggests that we might not be getting one in 2024. Anyway, the reason for the cancellation was concerns about the performance of Apple's baseband chip.

Originally, Apple planned to use an in-house chip for its mobile connectivity. This is probably a new 5G baseband chip that the company is still working on. One that Apple allegedly planned to debut on the iPhone SE 4, to help determine if it would be suitable for the iPhone 16 series. Unfortunately, this chip isn't quite on par with Qualcomm's chip. As such, Qualcomm is likely to remain Apple's exclusive supplier for the next two iPhone series.

So, what does this mean for the average iPhone fan? For one, no iPhone SE in 2024. Two, the next two iPhone series could see an increase in pricing if Qualcomm bumps up the prices for its baseband chips. Of course, that's just speculation for now. What do you think?
