Back in May 2025, there was news about inDrive needing to cease its operations in Malaysia, but that was not really the case. Today, the company announced it has officially secured approval from Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport (MoT) and the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to continue its operations, following a regulatory review.

Strengthening Driver Compliance

Announced at a press conference, the decision marks a pivotal moment for the company’s Malaysia strategy. inDrive emphasised its collaboration with local authorities and its ongoing mission to deliver fair and accessible mobility while remaining fully aligned with national regulations.

As part of its renewed commitments, inDrive highlighted key compliance standards:

  • All drivers must hold valid EVP permits, PSV licenses, and e-hailing insurance.
  • Drivers undergo rigorous document verification before activation on the platform.
  • The company has rolled out enhanced internal checks and is working with APAD to tighten its compliance framework.

Supporting Drivers and Driving Impact

Govin Kumaar, inDrive Malaysia Country Lead, noted that the platform’s low commission structure plays a crucial role in supporting livelihoods across the country. Currently active in 47 countries, inDrive’s flexible fare model, which allows users and drivers to mutually agree on trip prices, continues to draw praise for its affordability and fairness. Drivers retain 85–90% of fares.

Future Expansion and Inclusive Mobility

Mark Tolley, APAC Director, believes inDrive can be a force for innovation, choice, and empowerment in a competitive e-hailing landscape like Malaysia. inDrive is now ramping up efforts across several areas:

  • Revamped SOPs for driver onboarding and compliance rechecks.
  • Expansion of driver support, retention, and training via the inDrive Academy e-learning platform.
  • Upcoming rollout of new accessibility features for persons with disabilities (OKU), reinforcing its mission for inclusive mobility.

Besides inDrive, Maxim also recently announced that it secured continued operations under APAD guidelines. You can read more about it right here. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
