We all know that the smartphone market is competitive. Companies also aren't shy about taking potshots at each other. However, nubia claiming that its rivals are selling "fake flagships" could be a bad move.
In a recent Weibo post, nubia President Ni Fei wrote that some smartphone brands have been selling "fake flagships". He's claimed that some smartphone companies are offering new Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered phones that are downgraded in some aspects. Of course, newer flagships have some upgrades too, like Silicon-Carbon batteries for slimmer builds and larger battery capacities.
During this period, I have experienced several new phones from other competitors. I didn't expect that this year, so many brands have made the same decision "unintentionally" - downgrading, and launched one after another "fake flagship products with only flagship chips". The high cost of the Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition has been repeatedly used as an excuse for downgrading. - Ni Fei, nubia President
Ni Fei also accused these companies of designing phones to look like the iPhone, while nubia has its own style. Case in point, the nubia and Red Magic (a nubia sub-brand) flagship smartphones are probably the only ones in the industry with hole-free displays. In the case of the nubia Z70 Ultra's design, it even has a rear camera module design that's very different from other flagships in 2024.
Are some smartphone brands selling 'downgraded' or 'fake' flagships in late 2024? That's debatable. In our opinion, this could be a ploy by the nubia President to draw attention to the new nubia Z70 Ultra and Red Magic 10 series. But what do you think?
