tvOS 14.5 beta shows possible 120Hz for future Apple TV

There have been some talks about what the next Apple TV could deliver. A new model with a faster chipset is expected this year, along with a focus on gaming. And since Apple has started testing the new iOS and tvOS 14.5, there's bound to be some new features.

In fact, 9to5Mac found that tvOS 14.5 beta contained multiple references for '120Hz' and 'supports120Hz'. This suggests that tvOS is ready to support 120Hz for Apple TV. However, the current Apple TV only has an HDMI 2.0 port, so it can only support 4K 60Hz. That has to mean that Apple is preparing a new generation Apple TV that can support a refresh rate of 120Hz.

The addition of 120Hz would make the tvOS UI feel smoother and make games look much better. This wouldn't be surprising, as the company has been looking to push for wider adoption of its Apple Arcade cloud gaming platform. As for the chipset that could make that happen, it could be another variant of the Apple M1 chip. Though some say that it could be an overclocked A12 Bionic chip.

The last Apple TV was launched back in 2017, so it's about time for a new one anyway. Having said that, would you be interested in upgrading to the new one? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
