vivo X100 series expected to feature a customised Sony image sensor

The vivo X100 series smartphones are expected to feature some powerful image sensors. But what's interesting is that these aren't 100% Sony sensors, which are what most phones use in recent years. Allegedly, vivo's upcoming flagships will feature a customised sensor.

Recently, vivo announced its new V3 ISP (Image Signal Processor) chip. The company also unveiled a new custom LYTIA LYT800 image sensor, co-developed with Sony Lytia. It uses a 2-layer stacked pixel technology to enhance light absorption and noise reduction. While most would be inclined to think it's all Sony's work, a source claimed that vivo worked closely with Sony to develop the sensor.

The source also claimed that the LYTIA LYT800 image sensor is a 1/1.43-inch 53MP sensor but can perform on par with a 1-inch sensor. If so, the vivo X100 series phones can deliver excellent photography capability without having the sensors take up too much space. In return, the other sensors could perform at a high level, as vivo would have the space for other sensors of similar performance.

Besides the image sensor, the vivo X100 series could also feature a Zeiss T Vario-Apo-Sonner telephoto lens. This could be paired with the 200MP telephoto sensor the vivo X100 Pro+ will allegedly have. vivo will also introduce new night mode features, an XDR Photo 2.0 mode, SuperRAW mode, and more.
