vivo X80 series release: Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Dimensity 9000 CPU, Zeiss quad-camera setup from ~RM3650

vivo has just launched its latest flagship smartphones, the vivo X80 and X80 Pro in China yesterday. Offering the best specs on paper compared to the rest of the vivo lineup, the vivo X80 series also comes equipped with a custom imaging chip for better camera quality.

vivo X80 Pro

In China, the X80 Pro will be offered in two variants, either powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset. Display-wise, the X80 Pro sports a 6.78-inch AMOLED E5 LTPO2 screen with a QuadHD+ resolution and up to 120Hz variable refresh rate.

Furthermore, the X80 Pro also features an under-display fingerprint sensor that is 38 percent larger than its predecessor, the x70. Cameras-wise, it supports laser autofocus, Pixel Shift technology and optical image stabilisation (OIS).

At its rear, there’s a quad-camera setup with a 50MP ISOCELL GNV 1/1.3” primary sensor, a 48MP Sony IMX598 ultra-wide, a 2x zoom 12MP Sony IMX663 1/2” telephoto and a 5x 8MP periscope. At its front, the X80 Pro rocks a 32MP selfie camera.

Speaking of its imaging capabilities, the X80 Pro’s rear cameras features Zeiss T* lens coating and vivo V1 Plus imaging chip. The latter is an upgrade from the x70’s V1 imaging chip.

Besides that, the X80 Pro sports a 4700mAh battery that supports 80W fast charging as well as wireless fast charging at the same speed. Other notable specs include a 27-layer cooling vapour chamber, HiFI audio chip, Android 12 via OriginOS and an IP68 water resistance rating.

The X80 Pro comes in three variants and are sold at these prices in China:

  • 8GB+256GB: CNY5499 (~RM3650)
  • 12GB+256GB: CNY5999 (~RM3980)
  • 12GB+512GB: CNY6699 (~RM4450)

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 version is available in all three configurations above. Meanwhile, the Dimensity 9000 version is only offered for the 12GB RAM variants.

As for the X80, it is only offered in a Dimensity 9000 variant. Screen-wise, the X80 features a 6.78-inch E5 AMOLED panel with 1500 nits peak brightness, 100 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut and up to 120Hz refresh rate.

In terms of cameras, the X80 sports a triple-camera setup at its rear with a  50MP Sony IMX866 RGBW 1/1.49″ primary sensor, 2x zoom 12MP Sony IMX663 1/2″ telephoto and a 12MP Sony IMX663 ultra-wide. At its front, there’s a 32MP selfie camera.

Other notable specs include a 4500mAh battery that supports up to 80W fast charging and runs Android 12 via OriginOS. Unlike the X80 Pro however, it doesn’t have an official water resistance rating.

The x80 comes in four variants and are sold at these prices in China:

  • 8GB+128GB: CNY3699 (~RM2455)
  • 8GB+256GB: CNY3999 (~RM2655)
  • 12GB+256GB: CNY4399 (~RM2920)
  • 12GB+512GB: CNY4899 (~RM3250)

Previously, we reported that the X80 series will be launching in Malaysia next month on 8 May. However, vivo has yet to confirm the pricing and variants that would be available in our country.
