NewsBytes #10 - Wiko Malaysia Sunny2Plus, Samsung Little Pilot, Lenovo Lunar Cup and more

Xiaomi or Mi Malaysia have officially announced that the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage versions of their Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are now available in Malaysia from RM679 and RM749. Available from 7 February 2018 at all 3 Mi stores, participating Mi Zones and their official Mi store on Lazada, the smartphones both sport fullview 18:9 aspect ratio displays and will come in black, blue and gold.

The ASUS ZenFone 5 ZE620KL was apparently spotted in the wild showing off a full view display and a notch in the top middle for the front camera. Coming courtesy of @bgssilva the live shot is further supported by leaked press renders from @rquandt of the upcoming ZenFone 5 series. It is still unclear if only the Zenfone 5 ZE620KL is the only ZenFone with the iPhone X like notched display as the previously leaked ZenFone 5 Lite did not have any notch but the schematics below do show a USB Type C port and 3.5mm audio jack. While we wait for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 to come during MWC 2018 at the end of the month, initial camera samples between the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy S9 have appeared courtesy of leakster @MMDDJ_. Since it is a maximum zoom on both devices, it's difficult to judge actual picture quality but the Galaxy S9 image on the right clearly beats out the Galaxy S8 on the left. We're quite close to some Nokia device unveiling at MWC and as usual, some of these devices have leaked like this live picture supposedly of the Nokia 7+. Featuring an 18:9 aspect ratio display and single front camera, rumours say that it will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, have 12MP + 13MP and 16MP cameras packing ZEISS lens and come with Android One. No Malaysia release dates or pricing details yet but stay tuned to TechNave and we'll find out more in the next few weeks.

Yoodo recently announced that you and other Yoodo customers can get 8GB of data for just RM8. Considering that the lowest tier of data for Yoodo is 5GB for RM30, this is quite a deal. This deal is valid from today till 8pm on 2 March 2018.

Xiaomi officially announced their Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (known as Redmi 5 Plus in Malaysia) and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro in India today. The 4GB RAM + 64GB storage Redmi Note 5 Pro is priced at 13999 INR (~RM855) while a 6GB RAM + 64GB storage version is priced at 16999 INR (~RM1038). The 3GB RAM + 32GB storage Redmi Note 5 going for 9999 INR (~RM610) while a 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version is going for 11999 INR (~RM732). No Malaysia release dates or pricing details yet but it is available in India starting from 22 February 2018.

Honor Malaysia recently sent us a teaser image and with all the clues like "e9ually" and the quad cameras (OOOO) we can safely say that the honor 9 lite is probably coming to Malaysia very soon. While it was announced back in December 2017, we expect it to come here later in the month for hopefully below RM1000.

According to Geekbench scores, the Samsung Exynos 9810 powered Galaxy S9 (single core = 3648, multicore =8894) outperforms the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 version (single core = 2378, multicore = 8132). Since Malaysia has traditionally received the Samsung Exynos powered versions this means good news for us as we'll be getting the more powerful and battery efficient version of Samsung's upcoming flagship, so don't get impatient and buy the imported version before it is official here in Malaysia.
