Nokia has a habit of giving codenames to their upcoming products and devices. A recent leak by serial leaker evleaks shows that Nokia has 5 new codenames coming up in the form of Goldfinger, Moneypenny, Normandy, Phantom and Spinel. Both Goldfinger and Moneypenny are based on James Bond names but there isn't any clue yet which products these codenames are related to. The Spinel codename on the other hand could be related to another metal-clad smartphone or device. For the most part evleaks has been very accurate with all these Nokia codenames, so we should expect another 5 new Nokia devices soon. However, this is still a rumour so do take it with a small pinch of salt.

Lenovo has recently launched the IdeaPad Flex, a dual-mode notebook PC with a 10-point multitouch touchscreen from $680 (RM2173). Like so many other convertible-like notebooks you can flip the hinge about 300 degrees (with the keyboard facing down) to transforem into a tablet with a stand. Tech specs for the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex includes an Intel Core i3 processor, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT740M graphics, 14-inch display with 10-point multitouch and 1366 x 768 pixel resolution. The notebook weighs in at 2kg with measurements going at 343 x 250 x 21mm. Other features include a 720p webcam, Dolby certified speakers and a 48Wh battery which according to Lenovo should last for about 6 hours or so. We suspect that this is a lower-end version of the Lenovo Flex 14 which is already available in Malaysia at RM2299 with the same design but with higher-end specs so it shouldn't be that long before a Malaysia release date for this version is announced. There is also a larger 15.6-inch display version called the Lenovo Flex 15.

Quite a lot of people are still waiting for stand-alone smartwatch, or a smartwatch which doesn't need a smartphone to work. While there are other independant developers, Goophone looks to have come out with a stand-alone smartwatch in the form of the Goophone Smartwatch. Featuring a SIM card slot, the Goophone smartwatch comes in 2 versions, one with 3G and one with just 2G. Both are WiFi capable and run on a 1.2GHz dual-core MediaTek processor with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. Other tech specs include a 1.54-inch display with 240 x 240 pixel resolution along with a 2MP camera, GSM - 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz and WCDMA - 850/1900/2100. At 72 grams and 41.9 x 47.5 x 13.5mm the watch is quite large and follows the slab of touchscreen house of design. While it has windows phone like main interface, the smartwatch is running Android 4.0 and it looks like you can download apps with ease. Both versions are available for pre-order at $299.99 (RM960) for the 3G version and $249.99 (RM800) for the 2G version. According to Goophone the battery life should be about 48 hours on normal use. While there isn't any Malaysia release date, they do have shipping to Malaysia for $29.99 (RM96) with shipping within 5-7 days. Check out the video in the article.

The rumour mill for Apple's next iPhone model or models has kicked up another interesting tidbit. While there are already rumours that a 5-inch Apple iPhone 6 could be on it's way, a published report was noted as saying that there will be 2 such versions, one with a 4.7-inch screen and the other with a 5-inch screen. What makes this even more interesting is that the screens will be curved downward at the edges. Other tech specs and features include sensors which would detect the amount of pressure for each touch so it could differentiate between a heavy or light touch. The report goes on further to state that the 2 new larger display curved screen Apple iPhones could be released in Q3 of 2014 which matches with this year's iPhone launch. As normal of such rumours, do take this with a pinch of salt, especially if you've been secretly hoping for a larger iPhone.

While the Panasonic Toughpad 4K UT-MB5 first came out early in the year back at CES 2013, Panasonic's 20-inch 4K display tablet is finally available for the crazy price of $6000 (RM19179). Since it is aimed at higher-end users like engineers and architects, the price isn't so shocking for that industry but normal consumers can simply marvel at both the tablet and the price tag. For now, tech specs for the Toughpad 4K UT-MB5 tablet includes an IPS Alpha 20-inch display with 3850 x 2560 pixel resolution. This results in a rather low 230 ppi pixel density but you still get eye-popping clarity overall. Other tech specs and features include a 1.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i5-3437U vPro processor, an NVIDIA GeForce 745M graphics processor with 2GB VRAM, 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD storage, 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, US 3.0, SDXC and a 720p front camera. The overall design is rugged in line with the Toughpad range but due to the massive display and demanding hardware, battery life is limited to just 2 hours on a single charge. The tablet will run on Windows 8.1 and Panasonic is currently developing an even more powerful version for 3D modelling and CAD rendering. No details yet on Malaysia release dates or pricing but if you have the money for it, location shouldn't be a problem. Check out the video in this article.

Sony Malaysia have recently sent out invites for an event on 14 November 2013, where they will share news and information regarding the Sony PlayStation 4 game console. Personally, we're expecting big things from the PlayStation 4 and while the press conference most probably is just a teaser to the actual Malaysia launch and release date of the PlayStation 4, Malaysian gamers would do well to stay tuned for that event. As it is, it probably isn't the launch date as previous news has indicated that the Sony PlayStation 4 would get a Malaysia release date sometime in December 2013. Or it could be to tell everyone that the Sony PlayStation 4 or PS4 would be available globally the next day on 15 November 2013, which is the date it is launching in the US. For a refresher, check out the Sony PlayStation 4 videos in this article.

Sony recently announced their DPT-S1 e-ink touchscreen tablet featuring a massive 13.3-inch display for an equally massive 100000 yen (RM3244). The 13.3-inch touchscreen uses an e-ink display with a a resolution of 1200 x 1600. The E Ink Mobius display uses protective film, which according to Sony makes it easier to write on than existing tablets. While the screen is just greyscale with no colours, the tablet itself is just 6.88mm thin and 358 grams. This makes it thinner and lighter than the Apple iPad Air despite it's massive size. However, the DPT-S1 tablet isn't aimed at consumer markets and instead is headed for the enterprise or education fields as a digital paper solution. In these situations they would be ideal for viewing of high-resolution documents or papers and post-editing which could also be useful in legal documentation fields. No news or details on Malaysia release dates but it should be available for other markets from the Japan release date of 3 December 2013.

Samsung has some big plans for it's future smartphones as it may be offering 4K displays, 16MP ISOCELL cameras and 64-bit processors for Samsung smartphones debuting after 2014. While the 64-bit processor and 4K display news looks to be sourced from Samsung itself the 16MP ISOCELL camera news looks to be confirmed from Korean media. According to Samsung they are currently developing 4K Ultra HD resolution displays for smartphones with 3840 x 2160 pixel resolutions. These 800+ppi smartphones could come in 2015 while the other planned features such as the 16MP ISOCELL cameras and 64-bit Exynos processors could appear in 2014 model Samsung smartphones. Tech specs and details about the 16MP ISOCELL camera includes the fact that it may include wide dynamic range and auto focus but it will still be the standard 1.12 micron pixel size. Also, there is no mention of any anti-shake or optical image stabilization (OIS) features for the camera sensor as earlier reported but things could still change when next year rolls around.

Samsung is one of only 2 major makers of flexible displays in the world and has since dominated the smartphone world with it's various smartphone models. Following a roadmap image at one of their presentations, it appears that Samsung may come out with foldable smartphones from 2015. It also appears that more curved display devices are on the way as the road map notes that curved displays will range from 2013 to early 2014 and bended displays will follow after in 2014 to 2015. While Samsung did not elaborate on what it defines as bended or foldable, it does show an example of a bended display graphic which sort of rolls the display. We assume that if it is foldable, this means you can flatten it down so it forms a crease, making for a thinner device. Samsung also went on to show how such foldable display devices might work and even came up with an interesting foldable (or is it bended?) concept device video which appears to be nothing much more than a thin sheet of foldable plastic. Check out the pics and video for yourself in this article.
