After a number of alphas and betas, Apple's iOS 9 has been officially released. The update comes in at 1.3GB and offers about 1 hours worth of extra battery life for your device along with a low power mode which adds on 3 more hours of battery life (while turning off certain functions) for your iOS powered device. Other features include an improved Siri that will automatically highlight important dates complete with extra information searched from the Internet. Apple iPad users get aSplit View for the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 while Slide Over lets you open a new app without closing the first app. Picture in Picture opens a small video window inside an open app. You also get the Newsstand app which replaces News along with new directions on Maps. The update should be coming to your compatible Apple device soon despite there being no specific Malaysia release date.

According to Alcatel, their Alcatel OneTouch Flash2 smartphone is coming on 22 September 2015. Set for an online press conference, there aren't that many tech specs or features revealed yet for the smartphone apart from a 5.0-inch display and the phrase "The Power of Green". Since the original Alcatel OneTouch Flash was launched for the selfie masses, we assume that the OneTouch Flash2 will offer updated specs and perhaps a green exterior. The previous OneTouch Flash features a 5MP front camera so we assume that the Flash2 will either go for an 8MP front camera or go all the way with dual 13MP front and back cameras like the recent ASUS ZenFone Selfie. No news yet on actual Malaysia release dates or pricing details, but we would assume that the OneTouch Flash2 would be priced higher than the previous RM699. Stay tuned for more details as the live event should be happening in the next 7 days.

Intel recently sent out invites revealing that Malaysia will see their Intel 6th Generation Core processors on 7 October 2015. Built on the Skylake microarchitecture and a smaller but energy saving 14nm fabrication process, the new processors offer 2.5x better performance, 3x battery life and 30x better graphics than the average 5-year old system. While the range will cover desktops and notebook computers there will also be Intel Core M processors designed for mobile use as well. The release of an unlocked mobile "K" SKU also means mobile Intel processors which can be overclocked. While it does not mean that we'll see overclockable tablets on the reveal date it does mean we could see such devices in the near future, something we're excited to see happen.

While the Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were just recently announced, it was not revealed how much RAM each smartphone was actually packing. Most rumours before the launching were saying it would be 2GB but recent Xcode images may confirm this. Xcode is a set of development tools from Apple themselves so it seems okay to assume that this rumour is accurate. The previous Apple iPhone, the iPhone 6 only packed in 1GB of RAM so it should be one more reason to buy the iPhone 6s when it comes to Malaysia. The Xcode image also revealed that the recently announced Apple iPad Pro could also be packing in 4GB of RAM. While this rumour does seem accurate enough, do take it with a pinch of salt for now as images can be doctored quite easily these days. Stay tuned for more developments.

Apple also officially announced their business-targeted Apple iPad Pro tablet complete with a Microsoft Surface like keyboard and Pencil stylus. The iPad Pro comes with a 12.9-inch display with 2732 x 2048 pixel resolution. Other known tech specs include an Apple A9x processor and four speakers. The Keyboard has a magnetic Smart Connector that provides both power and data but comes separately at $169 (RM711.07). The Apple Pencil stylus also comes separately at $99 (RM416.54) but there is no place for you to slot it in on the tablet. Looking much like a 6.9mm thin iPad Air 2, the iPad Pro offers up to 10 hours battery life and is fully optimized for use with Microsoft Office and Adobe Apps. No Malaysia release dates yet but the iPad Pro is expected to arrive in November (which means Malaysia could see it next year).
The Apple iPad mini 4 was also officially announced with a slimmer 6.1mm thin case (compared to the iPad mini 3 at 7.5mm) with a zero-gap screen and still 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution Retina display. Other tech specs and features will include an Apple A8 processor, 8MP rear camera and 1.2MP front camera while everything else remains the same. Unfortunately, there is no rose gold option for the iPad mini 4 but it will have a preorder starting from 11 September 2015 with shipping on 25 September 2015. No Malaysia pricing details yet but the 16GB storage iPad mini 4 will be priced as below. Like certain Apple iPhones in Malaysia, the pricing of Apple iPads have also been increased and the iPad mini 3 has been removed from the site.

Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus officially announced with 12MP and 5MP cameras + A9 processor + 3D Touch
Sep 10, 2015
Apple have officially announced their Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus smartphones with many new hardware and feature upgrades. Like most S iPhone cycle iterations, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus do not change much in terms of design except that you get a new rose gold colour and that the body is a bit thicker than before (7.1mm from 6.9mm for the iPhone 6s and 7.3mm from 7.1mm from the iPhone 6s Plus). This is perhaps because the all metal body now uses 7000 Series aluminum, so hopefully there won't be any more bendgates. This also means that they are also heavier at 143g from 129g for the iPhone 6s and 192g from 172g for the iPhone 6s Plus. There are no significant changes to display sizes as well so you get the same 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Retina HD displays as before. There are also no changes in terms of storage tech specs with 16GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options but no RAM details yet. Check out some of the new features in this article.
