U Mobile is currently offering the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phablet for as low as RM1099. In addition to this, they are also offering a special trade-in feature, so you can send in your old and unwanted smartphone for hopefully some rebates off the asking price. Since the Galaxy Note 4 retails at a very high RM2499, this is quite welcome and you can find out which phone qualifies from the trade-in list. For the no upfront payment scheme, you will have to sign up with your credit card and activate auto debit for the monthly commitment to qualify. Citibank credit card holders get an extra RM100 rebate provided you sign up for a 0% easy payment plan and and the aforementioned auto debit. As a sign of support for all those ASUS ZenFone 4 A400CXG/CG buyers here in Malaysia, ASUS Malaysia is now offering complimentary ASUS ZenFone 4 original bumper cases for those who bought the ZenFone 4 from 3 October 2014 and onwards. To redeem these absolutely free bumper cases users need only submit the scanned/photographed copy of the ZenFone 4 purchase receipt to [email protected] / [email protected] and your personal details. The purchase receipt must have the following details to be valid for the giveaway:
- Dealer's company name
- Invoice date: Must be 3rd October 2014 onwards

Apart from the Apple iPad tablets, Apple also revealed that the latest Apple iOS 8.1 update will be available for download on 20 October 2014. The update brings a number of features to your Apple device including support for Apple Pay, the iCloud Photo Library public beta and the camera roll that disappeared in iOS 8. Hopefully it won't cause as many problems as previous iOS 8 updates.

Apple mentioned a little bit about their upcoming smartwatch, the Apple Watch. While it hasn't been released yet, it has been confirmed that the Apple Watch will be coming in early 2015. This means that you'll have to wait till at least Q1 of 2015 (rumours say February 2015) to get the Apple Watch. In the meantime, developers for Watch OS apps will get the WatchKit SDK in November 2014. Bear in mind that the Apple Watch will start from $349 (RM1146) so if you really want it, you should start saving now. No Malaysia release date or pricing yet but we expect it in 2015.

Apple just announced the latest iteration in their smaller tablet range with the Apple iPad mini 3. While it lead all the other Apple iPad tablets in terms of design initially, the latest iPad mini does not change much. The slim bezel design, 7.9-inch screen with Retina Display and measurements are still the same as before. The most notable difference in tech specs and features is that this new iPad mini 3 now has a Touch ID fingerprint sensor built into the Home button and as such can be used with Apple Pay.

The Apple iPad Air 2 was officially announced yesterday. At first glance, the overall design may look the same but the tablet is now 18% thinner at 6.1mm thin and 435g. Other notable design changes include removing the mute button and slanting the volume rocker diagonally, allowing the tablet to achieve it's 6.1mm thinness. Apple also laminated it's 9.7-inch screen, combining the cover glass, touch sensor and LCD into one thinner optically fused layer. However, resolution remains the same at 2048 x 1536 pixels, but at least Apple have included an anti-reflective coating as well.

While we've yet to see any news on Malaysia release dates or pricing for the Apple iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3, the Apple Malaysia Store has already revealed the updated pricing for the previous Apple iPad tablets. This includes a price drop for all of the tablets including the iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad mini 2 of about RM150 to RM300 or so for each. The iPad mini now only has 16GB versions, while the iPad mini 2 has 16GB and 32GB versions. The previous iPad 4 has also been removed from listings, leaving the iPad Air with 16GB and 32GB versions. Designed for the young and always online, the pack offers 10 minutes of Free 4G LTE Internet 3 times a day, 10 free games every day and 10 seconds of free calls for every Celcom network call. Priced at RM8.50 with RM5 worth of pre-loaded airtime, Internet of Xpax users can get all these benefits by dialing *118# and selecting the appropriate menu option. The Internet of Xpax pack offers 33sen / 10 minutes on Voice Call within the same network (Celcom to Celcom), 33sen / 3 minutes to other networks (Celcom to everyone else) and 20 sen / 5 sms to all networks. In addition, various Internet plans have been created to cater to every need in the market with free 4G LTE WiFi hotspots available across Malaysia. A user manual containing stats and images of the upcoming Apple iPad Air 2 and Apple iPad mini 3 recently appeared on Apple's own site. It was quickly taken down but not before leaking stats and images of the upcoming tablets set to be announced tonight. The leak doesn't reveal much in terms of tech specs but does reveal some features such as a Touch ID fingerprint sensor for both tablets and a Burst mode for the camera on the Apple iPad Air 2. The manual also confirms the names as Apple iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 which could mean an expanded inventory at the Apple store rather than an outright replacement. No Malaysia release dates or pricing just yet but we expect it to arrive in Malaysia sometime in November or December of 2014.

Google also announced their Nexus Player Android 5.0 Lollipop powered TV Box. Made with ASUS, the Nexus Player is the first official Android TV Box to date, despite there already being quite a lot of Android powered TV boxes already. Made to hook up to your HDTV, run Android apps, games and play movies it can also run Android TV, YouTube, Play Music, Play Movies, Hulu Netflix, Pandora and so forth. Tech specs and features for the Nexus Player include a 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB storage and WiFi support. As usual with such devices, you'll be able to control the Nexus Player via a bluetooth remote whch has a built-in microphone for voice commands. A wireless gamepad will be offered as an optional accessory. No details on Malaysia release dates or pricing but the Nexus Player will be going on pre-order from 17 October 2014 with general availability on 3 November 2014.
