    Celcom to expand its 4G LTE coverage to up to 92 percent in Sabah and Sarawak by end of 2022

    Celcom Axiata Bhd (Celcom) in a statement yesterday stressed that it is aiming to expand the coverage and capacity of its 4G LTE service in East Malaysia by the year’s end. The company is aiming for 92 percent coverage in Sarawak and 85 percent in Sabah.

    Digi recently gave their Quarterly Network Update presentation on their upcoming plans in the future. One of the key points they pointed out was an improved expansion of their 4G LTE network coverage, as it has increased to 60% of the population coverage. This is the result of their engineers, busy expanding Digi's 4G LTE network for the past few months in 80 major cities and towns (key market centres 95% population coverage). They have also switched its 4G LTE-Advanced (4G LTE-A) network nationwide with a 22% coverage footprint (50% population coverage in key market centres).

    Maxis has made a surprise move by inviting both Digi and Celcom to have a discussion on setting the industry standards for 4G LTE. 23 November 2015 will be the date and Maxis hopes that the three telco giants can have a meaningful meeting to allow them to determine how to measure coverage in various territories. Maxis also claims they only want to provide what’s best for their customers and “have a fair basis for choosing”.

    OPPO Neo 5 with 4G LTE coming to Malaysia soon

    While it hasn't been officially announced yet, OPPO Malaysia could be bringing the OPPO Neo 5 smartphone into Malaysia soon. The device has appeared at the OPPO Mobile Malaysia site and while the tech specs are more or less the same as the previous OPPO Neo smartphone, the new OPPO Neo 5 will offer 4G LTE. What is even more interesting is that the OPPO Neo 5 is set to be one of the most affordable 4G LTE smartphones in Malaysia, especially as it will be priced at RM598. While you can check our earlier review of the OPPO Neo, the tech specs for the OPPO Neo 5 are decidedly entry-level to midrange with a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB storage, 4.5-inch display with 854 x 480 pixel resolution, 5MP rear camera, 2MP front camera and 1900 mAh battery. It will come with Android 4.3 and OPPO's gesture based ColorOS. While there are still no specific Malaysia release dates, we expect the OPPO Neo 5 to come as soon as next week.

    U Mobile launches 4G LTE for almost all users

    As teased earlier, U Mobile has finally launched 4G LTE on their networks. Offering up to 75Mbps speeds the service currently covers Bandar Sunway, Berjaya Times Square, Puchong and Taman Molek, Johor Bahru. While the coverage areas are still rather limited, U Mobile have done good on their claim of 4G for all by opening it up to Prepaid, Postpaid and Broadband users. This means you don't need to get a new 4G LTE SIM card to get on U Mobile's 4G LTE network. As long as you have an LTE capable device and a U Mobile SIM all you need to do is send 'LTE ON' to 28118.     U Mobile 4G LTE coming to Malaysia 17 December 2013, prepaid users included

    According to reports, U Mobile may soon be coming out with their own 4G LTE services. Instead of just offering postpaid plans, the U Mobile 4G LTE will also be available to prepaid users with a Malaysia release date set on 17 December 2013. While the reports don't mention them, it could also mean that U Mobile may also start selling 4G LTE devices as well. Here's what U Mobile had to say about it all:
